I arrived at the Hynes Convention Center to meet Michele from Rosie’s Place for the annual Funny Women, Serious Business 2017 fundraiser lunch event to experience this special occasion first hand. As a woman from Massachusetts, I have been aware of Rosie’s Place for many years. I first became aware of the shelter and the Women’s Craft Cooperative when I saw the button brooches that were sold at Frugal Fannies a number of years ago. Their mission to not only provide a safe place for women, but to also provide services to help them stand on their own intrigued me. Shortly after arriving at the event, then caught up with our partner photographer Leise who was there to cover the festivities.

She was covering the event while David was out of town.  We were greeted warmly as we registered, bought raffle tickets and met HSMAI Boston president, Greg Bodenair.  Greg is the enthusiastic new leader of this dynamic group of sales and marketing managers and he was pleased to have us there. He was also excited about the presentation he and Brian Fitzgerald were about to give.

We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast buffet which included a unique, plated trio of a poached egg, corned beef hash and hollandaise sauce.  Breakfast parfaits mixed with dried fruit, seeds and nuts as well as sliced fresh fruit, pastries and coffee were also on hand.  I took advantage of the social time to connect with a few people while Lauren captured images of HSMAI Boston members mingling before the presentation.

SoWa Power Station

As the digital marketing manager for David Fox, Photographer, I was on a mission to to get to know the people I have been cultivating online relationships with, and build new contacts through face to face meetings. The GBCA (GBCAonline.org) trade show seemed like the perfect place to start.  I have a strong interest in the events and hospitality industry and David is really well connected.  We decided that it would benefit all of us for me to be more involved and to really get to know the hospitality and events world.

David was covering an event at Fenway the night of the trade show so his associate Jean Hangarter, covered the GBCA event.  My role was to meet, mingle and experience the trade show and write an article for the blog.

The air was crisp when I arrived at the SoWa Power Station for the annual affiliate member trade show, but it dissipated as I was warmly greeted by Betty Salemme, president of GBCA.  We hugged and chatted for a moment as I took in the large, repurposed space that had once been home to a dozen power producing coal burners and is now a hip event locale filled with festive, colored lights draped jauntily from the high industrial ceiling.
